The Rotary Dar Marathon 2016 will be held in Dar es Salaam on Nyerere Day, the event is organized by
the seven Rotary Clubs in Dar es Salaam in partnership with Bank M Tanzania plc is expected to attract a
large number of participants from Tanzania and other countries within and outside the African continent.
It will be the eighth consecutive year for the event to be conducted and the former President Ali Hassan
Mwinyi who is also the patron will participate in the Marathon.
The marathon will be held on October 14 th at the Green on Kenyatta Drive Oysterbay and will coincide
with the commemoration of 17 years since Mwalimu Nyerere died.
The Marathon theme is “Healing Lives, Transforming Communities” whereby the marathon proceeds will
go towards setting up of a Rotary teaching hospital in Dar es salaam.
The RDM committee chair Ms. Agnes Batengas said the event is expected to attract over 15,000
participants and some notable runners from the continent and it includes the 5KM family walk, 9KM walk
and a 21.1KM which is the half Marathon itself as well as cycling. She also mentioned the registration
points in and around Dar es salaam city including Shoppers Plaza supermarkets in Masaki,
Mikocheni and Mbezi; Slipway; Mlimani City; Shrijee Supermarket Masaki, City Mall; Oysterbay
Shopping Centre; Collosuem masaki; JM Mall and Kibo Complex Tegeta.
Like last year, the marathon will again pass through some major roads in the city including the Toure
Drive, Chole, Haile Sellasie, Alli Hassan Mwinyi, Ocean, Kivukoni, Ohio and Kenyata. “We have assurance
from the police force and they have made all the necessary arrangements to make sure that the whole
event goes swiftly” concluded Ms. Batengas.
The CEO (Designate) of Bank M, Ms. Jacqueline Woiso said that “Bank M’s CSR activities spring from our
total identification with the society and deep commitment towards its welfare. Bank M and Rotary Clubs
will continue working together to support deliverable and sustainable projects to bring about a
remarkable difference in the community” said Ms. Woiso adding that “this particular project is a clear
indication of our commitment to support the local communities in the areas we operate.”
